My Top 5 Professional Shampoos For Color Treated Hair.
Updated: Feb 5
You've been to the hairdresser, had a fabulous color done, spent goodness knows how much to look this good and want to be able to maintain that color for as long as possible; The question is how and what's the best shampoo out there?
As hairdressers, we understand that coloring your hair is pricey enough and we go on and on about buying shampoos that will make your color last longer; but it's the truth and a product you should really invest in. In the long run, we are trying to save you money as well because you shouldn't need to go back to your stylist every two weeks to refresh the color if you have the right product.
This took a long time for me to decide which out of all the shampoos I've used over the last 20 years are my favorites. There are so many to choose from but I managed to whittle it down. So here are my Top 5 Professional shampoos for color-treated hair:
5) Wella Brilliance Shampoo for Color Treated Hair - for thick or fine/normal hair.
This is one of the more popular shampoos used in salons I've worked in before. It's great because it caters to fine and thick hair which most shampoos don't usually do. It contains lime caviar to improve hair moisturization. PH optimized to assist in the closing of the cuticle after coloring and helps the color last up to 7 weeks with regular use. Leaves hair feeling soft and looking shiny.
4) TIGI Bed Head Colour Goddess Infused Oil Shampoo.
TIGI comes usually as a shampoo and conditioner set. Great value for money and then you don't have to go searching for a different conditioner. Smells fab because it is infused with almond oil and coconut oil which also leaves hair feeling nourished, soft and frizz-free. It contains essential proteins such as Keratin and nutrients such as Vitamin E which is also an antioxidant promoting longer-lasting hair color as well as color vibrancy.
3) Matrix Biolarge Colorlast Shampoo.
Specifically designed colored and damaged hair. Has a low PH for color vibrancy and to extend the life of your color for up to 9 weeks. Paraben-free, nourishing, strengthening whilst moisturizing and protects from environmental damage. I used to use this a long time ago. Back then professionals were the only ones who could buy this. Thank goodness times have changed!
2) L'Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Vitamino Color Shampoo.
An oldy really is a goody! I've used this shampoo in salons and at home for years. L'Oréal always gets it right with their shampoos and very rarely changes their formula. It smells great too. It contains Resveratrol; a substance derived from a plant and known for its antioxidant qualities to the hair follicles in particular. This promotes the vibrancy of colored hair as well as helping the color last up to 8 weeks. Protecting hair from damage and gently removes impurities leaving hair feeling soft.
1) Maria Nila Luminous Colour Shampoo.
This company is located in Sweden and is my all-time favorite shampoo, that I have personally used. Not only does it have Colour Guard Complex protecting the hair, but it also contains pomegranate extract to enhance the color vibrancy and help maintain the color. It strengthens and repairs hair as well as smelling ABSOLUTELY DEVINE!
It gets to my top spot for a few reasons. Aside from smelling good enough to eat and maintaining the color, these products are all vegan-friendly (certified by PETA, Leaping Bunny, and the Vegan Society), climate-friendly and cruelty-free. Yep, you heard me correctly! And to top even that fantastic news, they assist farmers from the poorest parts of the world in contributing to the reforestation of forests and when you buy their products, they plant trees to help the planet. There is so much more they do and I advise researching them to fully understand what they do to the planet as well as the hairdressing profession.
