My Top 5 Deep Conditioning Masks.
Updated: Feb 5
Dry, frizzy, tangled hair; the nightmare for all who know and feel the pain of having to figure out whether you need a Keratin Treatment, a good cut or a deep conditioning treatment. Well, I always advise my clients to have a trim every 8-12 weeks at a maximum (for more information about how to maintain hair to look healthy, click here) and to do a deep conditioning treatment at least once a month (due to the state of the water where I live). And don't forget, the environment we live in plays a huge role in the dryness and frizz in our hair. Fly away or static hair is caused by fibers in hats and hoods on coats; hot air from dryers and central heating; the winter is the best time to add a hydrating deep conditioning treatment to your regime. The Keratin Treatment, in my opinion, is the last resort, before all other channels have been exhausted.
So, where to start? When I started writing this blog, I knew I would have a tough time choosing my top 5 of anything; what with the changing trends and products, not to mention the heavy competition between haircare companies, it can send your head into a bit of a tizz.
I have whittled my top 5, do it yourself, deep conditioning treatments and I hope you're able to find your favorite amongst them.
5) Amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask.
Amika has been coming into their own over the last 5 years or so. Their products use ingredients such as seabuckthorn berry; which is said to contain vitamins A, C & E; and Omega-7, which is known to be a free-radical along with collagen-building properties that are fantastic for hair growth and strength. This treatment is no different. Hair looks and feels rejuvenated after using this treatment; it improves hair texture all year long from hot and humid summers; to cold and dry winters, nourishing the hair to look and feel amazing. All of this and it is paraben, sulfate, and phthalate-free, as well as smelling fabulous.
4) Aussie 3 Minute Miracle.
This is the BEST deep conditioning treatment to buy if you're on a budget. I used to use this when I was at school (a long time ago!!!) and it is still one of the best selling supermarket brand hair care products out there. Instantly fights frizz, provides moisture during the colder weather and smells good enough to eat. It only takes 3 minutes to make your hair feel amazing and this is why I loved using it. It contains Australian Aloe, Jojoba, and sea kelp, restoring strands and smoothing static.
3) Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask.
This is also another good treatment to combat the weather. Designed with a goal to create healthier, shinier hair in just 5 short minutes. It contains linseed extract and hydrating argan oil to give your locks that unbelievable shine. It's best for medium to thick hair; does what you need it to do and smells great!
2) It's a 10 Miracle Hair Mask.
I adore this mask and it just missed my number one spot. This is suitable for colored and heat-styled hair that has also been over-processed. As with some other treatments, it contains essential oil extracts such as linseed, almond, oat, and apricot; however, because of its versatility, it can be used as an intense treatment once a week or used in small amounts as part of your daily routine. Leaves hair feeling and looking like frizz is a distant memory and again, smells gorgeous.
1) Maria Nila True Soft Masque.
My number one spot has been reserved for my favorite brand of shampoos and conditioners; Maria Nila. Once again, they fail to disappoint with their line of hair care products. Free from sulfates and parabens, this mask is designed to bring your dry, frizzy hair back to some sort of normality. Using Argan oil to promote shiny, healthy hair as well as daily battles with frizz and static electricity.
It moisturizes, it nourishes and smells out of this world. Not forgetting they are cruelty-free, vegan-friendly down to the packaging and assist farmers in poorer countries to reforest their forests. They will always be my number one choice.
